Pinterest has been making moves, bloggers! In May 2013, Pinterest introduced “More Useful Pins” aka Rich Pins. We started seeing major brands such as Overstock, Good Housekeeping, Airbnb, TechCrunch, Netflix and Target, using Rich Pins back in January… And you can use them, too!
Rich Pins are Pins that include extra information right on the Pin. Currently, Pinterest expanded their Rich Pins to include: movie, recipe, article, product and place.
How can you use Rich Pins?
Product Rich Pins
The difference between a Rich product Pin and a regular product Pin is that a Rich Pin offers viewers the most up-to-date pricing AND provides a direct link back to the product page. Product Rich Pins should resonate most with fashion bloggers who have an affiliate network such as Shopify. The best thing about product Rich Pins for fashion bloggers is that the link goes directly to your site and you get the cha-ching! Users who see your pin will know exactly where to go to purchase a bag that’s caught their eye or pick up a hot new dress or sweater that you’re offering on your site!
Recipes Rich Pins
Recipe Rich Pins take up some serious Pinterest real estate. If you’re a food blogger or if you manage a Pinterest account for a local restaurant, this is a great way to drive traffic back to your site and showcase some of your tasty (and not-so-secret) recipes.
Movie Rich Pins
If you’re a movie buff, this is the Rich Pin for you, my blogger friend. Movie Rich Pins allow Pinners to see the director, leading roles, and ratings given by the site.
Article Rich Pins
Every post you create can now be an Article Rich Pin! Article Rich Pins show the name of your blog, name of your post author, date published AND a description. But be warned, bloggers: all the information posted will require that you verify the data exists and then you will need to submit it for approval.
Place Rich Pins
Traditionally, Place Rich Pins are being used by the hospitality industry to attract visitors to their place of business. However, bloggers can benefit by (literally) taking users on a journey! If you’re a travel blogger, there is no better platform to advertise your posts, than Place Rich Pins.
So How Can You Track All Your Pinsucess?
After you have set up your business account (FYI you can convert your personal into a business account), get ready for all the data action.
If you have not been introduced to Pinterest Analytics already, you will be blown away by their new business platform. This platform now allows you to see your overall Reach Impressions, Clicks, Repins and Likes. You can even see the distinction between a Rich Pin, Promoted Pin and a regular Pin.
Along with gauging the performance of your Pins, you can also dive into audience demographic information allowing you to strategically develop a winning Pinning strategy!
